Looking for books for your pre-teen? Top 5 books to interest your child in reading!

Updated: Feb 13, 2023

What are some of the best books for a 10-year-old? This list is based purely on what type of stories I enjoyed as a child (or adult in some cases) that would be great books for someone who is maybe just getting interested in reading or maybe someone who has found that they enjoy reading and are looking for a great story!

"Harry Potter and the Philosopher's Stone" by J.K. Rowling

This classic fantasy novel follows the adventures of young wizard Harry Potter as he begins his education at Hogwarts School of Witchcraft and Wizardry. I actually read this book as an adult and fell in love with the world of Harry Potter! I know that there is a very passionate fan base that all came about from this very first book full of magic, wonder, and a story that will draw any young reader into this amazing world!

"The Adventures of Tom Sawyer" by Mark Twain

This timeless coming-of-age story follows the mischievous but good-hearted Tom Sawyer as he navigates life in a small Mississippi River town. This book definitely is still a must-read as it is full of adventure and mischief! Paperback

"Charlotte's Web" by E.B. White

This heartwarming story about the friendship between a young girl named Fern and a spider named Charlotte has become a classic of children's literature. This story captivated me when I was a young child! This may be the first book that I read multiple times as it had really drawn me in and pulled at my emotions!

"Where the Wild Things Are" by Maurice Sendak

This beloved picture book tells the story of Max, a young boy who sails to an island inhabited by strange and wonderful creatures. This is one of the few books that I would recommend getting in Hardcover over any other! Hardcover

"The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe" by C.S. Lewis

This classic fantasy novel is the first in The Chronicles of Narnia series. It follows the adventures of four siblings who discover a magical land through a wardrobe in their attic. This would be the book that I would recommend to get anyone interested in reading, or to potentially help them become interested in reading! This is a story of wonder, adventure, and family that is sure to draw in anyone that reads the story! Paperback
