"The field doesn't move dead things"

I recently started reading Stephen King after a long break from reading in general and years since reading anything by the true master of horror.
I stumbled across this movie and noticed it was based on a novella by Stephen King and Joe Hill (King's son) from 2012 which I was not familiar with before watching this movie.
This movie wastes no time, getting off to a fast start with siblings stopping alongside a field of tall grass and hear a child calling out from the field that he is lost and needs help. As you can imagine...this is a very, very bad idea...but guess what...this is a Stephen King story, so they enter the grass.
Very quickly, it becomes clear that things are not right (or left...hehe) and the two are separated and can not find one another...and there is still the kid who they can not find. The movie, visually, is outstanding! You find yourself realizing how quickly you could find yourself lost in a field and what that fear would feel like.
There is a scene where we see a Church parking lot with a handful of vehicles sitting there, and some have apparently been there a long time. As I was beginning to understand what was happening in the movie, this scene came back to me as I thought about those other vehicles and what it meant that they were sitting in that parking lot.
The movie turns darker, as King stories tend to do, and we start to see glimpses of the evil of this place, and get an interesting telling explaining why the events are taking place. This doesn't happen all at once, but plays out over the course of the movie.
As I mentioned, I have not read this novella and am not sure how different that may be than this movie, but I will say, that I really, really enjoyed this movie! It felt like some of the great films of the past based on Kings works, and the story itself, one of the best stories from King that I have seen in a long time!
My only complaint...just a little one...the acting in the "romantic" scenes was not awesome. It was brief, but very forced. The rest of the acting...solid!
If you like Stephen King style horror stories/films, this is absolutely a movie you should check out! Fan of old school horror... yup, watch this! I want to again mention the visuals of this movie...very good!
Check it out on Netflix:
I will be checking out the Audiobook as well:
