"Invasion" by Sean Platt and Johnny B. Truant - narrated by Ray Porter

Updated: Jan 25, 2023

This book was... interesting! I enjoyed it enough to buy the next book in the series, but not enough that I will ever read this book again. Maybe this book was intended to simply set up the rest of the series?

Meyer, a super rich, super slick Doomsday prepper...(yeah...you read that correctly) has been preparing his whole life for...something. Well, now something is here in the form of massive spheres from outer space heading directly to Earth!

This book finds Meyer with his kids, current wife who is half his age (this story really plays out a bit like a midlife crisis) in a race across time from New York to Meyer's secret bunker in Colorado. Unfortunately for Meyer and his family, he isn't the only one eager to get away from big cities and this leads to some very challenging situations along the way. I was super excited about a stop at a little gas station in the middle of nowhere Iowa that had all of the telltale signs of a great horror script...but alas, this is a science fiction story, not a horror novel.

The narrator is one of my favorites and he does an amazing job (as always!) of helping us feel the intensity of the story! A+ for this!

The ending of this story....I have not read any other reviews, and I will not post any spoilers... but...wow...it left me feeling like (what the hell just happened!?!?) so that is always exciting!

Overall, the last quarter of the book was amazing, the first quarter was not and the middle was a mix of great things and meh things...but again, I picked up the next book in the story...so I would recommend this one... hesitantly.
